- Swap variables: Let's you swap variables used in the current file. The source library is the one that has the variables you've already used in the current file. Swap those variables with the variables from the target library. You can select specific area / current page / all pages of a file for swap.
- Search and Select Specific Variables : Advanced search functionality allows you to find specific variables before initiating the swap, import and export operation. This feature ensures greater precision and control over the variable process.
- Import, Export Variables : "Variables Pro" enable you to import and export variables seamlessly. Import and export supports variable with multiple mode, value as alias, scopes and code syntax. You can import and export variables in JSON format. You can select collections before export and import giving you the power of what you need.
How to Use "Swap: Variables Pro" Feature:
Step 1: Install the Plugin:
If you haven't installed the "Variables Pro" plugin already, follow these simple steps:
- Open Figma and go to the main dashboard.
- Click on the "Plugins" tab in the left sidebar.
- In the search bar, type "Variables Pro" and hit enter.
- Click on "Install" next to the "Variables Pro" plugin in the search results.
- The plugin will be added to your Figma workspace, and you'll find it under the "Plugins" menu.
Step 2: Prepare Your Figma File:
Before using "Variables Pro," make sure you have applied variables to elements in your Figma file. You can use either local variables or variables from a library. Arrange them into collections for easier organization.
Step 3: Open "Variables Pro":
- Go to the page in your Figma file where you have applied the variables you want to swap.
- Run the "Variables Pro" plugin by navigating to "Plugins" in the top menu, then selecting "Variables Pro" and clicking on "Open."
Step 4: Select Source & its collection:
This is the "library or current file" and its collection that contains the variables that you used and want to replace from file. Note that this will show libraries which has been enabled from Assets of a current file.
For example, if you want to replace the colors variables in your design of current page with colors variables from a different library, you would select the source that contains the colors variables that you used and want to replace in the current file.
Step 5: Select Target & its collection:
This is the "library or current file" and its collection that contains the variables that you want to use as replacements. Note that this will show libraries which has been enabled from Assets of a current file.
For example, if you want to replace the colors variables used in your design with colors variables from a different library, you would select the target that contains the colors variables that you want to replace the current colors variables with.
In other words, the "Source Library & its collection" is where you find the variables that you used in current file and want to replace, and the "Target Library & its collection" is where you find the variables that you want to use as replacements.
Step 6: Select Variables to Swap:
After selection, You will see list of variables as per Source and target selection. You can select all variables or specific variables to swap.
Step 7: Swap Variables:
Once you've reviewed the found variables and are satisfied with the selections, click on the "Swap" button.
Here are some additional things to keep in mind when using the "Swap" feature:
- You can swap variables from the same file or from different files.
- If you are swapping variables from the same file, you need to select different collections.
- If you are swapping variables from different files, you can select different collections or the "All collection".
- The "Swap" feature matches variables based on their name and type.
